Flying Naked

It’s great to finally be flying naked again (well, without a mask on our faces anyway). This week, the TSA is no longer requiring masks at airports and on flights. It’s been nearly two years (has it really been two years?!!?) since airlines started requiring them for all flights.

The airlines required masks even before the government required them. Cruise lines required them, even when the local and state requirements no longer did. The travel industry, by far, has been very protective and proactive and a leader when it has come to safety. And now, finally, there are no requirements on cruise ships or airplanes. I am sure many will still choose to wear masks, especially on airplanes. Even before Covid, people were starting to wear masks on airplanes.

I remember once, taking a long flight to Hawaii with Tess and she was fine when we left home, but after an 11-hour flight, she started coughing and was diagnosed the next day with strep throat. There are many contagious viruses besides Covid and they are easily transmittable in tight spaces with large crowds.

I know many people that have saved up, taken off work, and traveled to exotic destinations only to turn up sick, shortly after arrival. Spending your hard-earned vacation in a hotel bed isn’t fun. Nor is having a case of Montezuma’s Revenge abroad.

I’m just happy to be able to fly again without a mask. I have had three vaccinations, I had Covid in the past 8 months (and when I did, I had virtually no symptoms), and I take vitamin C & D and Zinc daily now. I wash my hands more often, I make sure I sleep more regularly and for at least 8 hours these days.

I feel like I am doing as much as I can, and it’s time for me to start living again. Life just hasn’t seemed the same to me when you have to put on a mask to go anywhere and this last hurdle means a lot to me and feeling free.

Today, I am looking for flights back to New Orleans, from Mexico. I am also looking for flights for this summer. For Naughty N’awlins. Burning Man. Naughty Vegas. Naughty Cancun. And I’m looking at flights to Jamaica so I can go back to Hedo again (finally!). I am checking the dates at Desire and I am planning on going to the Dominican Republic this fall to tour the new Temptation properties.

God this feels so good. love you Kayak, Google Flights, and Kiwi.com.

Oh, how I have missed searching for flights. Today feels right. Today feels almost normal again.

This is going to be a great year. I can feel it.

I hope to see many of you soon. And I look forward to seeing your faces again.

Finally.
