TIPS FOR GETTING COSTUME-READY IN 2020
It's finally Fall y'all! And no pandemic can take away that exciting feeling that happens when the weather gets cooler, the leaves start to change (in some areas) and of course costume season arrives (our favorite part). Halloween, Dia de los Muertos and Naughty N'awlins are all just around the corner!
Depending on where you are in the country and what Phase you're operating from, you might actually be able to get into a few costume parties with—gasp—actual people! But no matter if you plan on stepping out or keeping it socially distant and partying it up virtually, I've got some cool costume tips for you that can help you create something fabulous and safe for the times we're in.
Naughty N'awlins 2020 Themes
Looking for some inspiration? Here's the list of the themes we will have for Naughty N'awlins 2020. Use these as a guide to help you figure out your costume(s) for this year. And if you won't be joining us, you can still use these as inspiration.
Pajama Jam - sexy PJs, lingerie, robes, cute onesies, whatever makes you sleep at night.
Animal Print Night - tap into your wild side. Lions and tigers and bears—oh my!
Superheroes & Villains - Up up and away! Bust out your capes, command sleeves, lasers and latex to take over the world!
Mardi Gras Ball - Purple, gold and green y'all! Don't forget your masks, beads and lots of sparkle!
Consider Your Mask
By the time Halloween and Naughty N'awlins come around, who knows what guidelines we will be following? Make sure you consider the fact that you might have to incorporate a face mask into your costume. This can actually be pretty fun if you let it. Think something kinky like leather or latex, tassels, fringe, sequins, or something horrific coming out of your mouth, crazy facial hair and creepy smiles.
Here's some sources to help you find the perfect mask for either your Halloween or Naughty N'awlins costumes:
Make it interchangeable
If you're lucky enough to have multiple costume parties to attend this year, save yourself some time and money by having a few pieces that can go with various costumes. It could be a pair of leggings, a bra or corset, a cape, a face mask, a chest plate, a pair of comfy (yet festive) shoes, a wig or anything else that could be used in different ways. This will especially help if you're packing up to come to Naughty N'awlins and you want to keep your luggage light.
Be Mindful
You KNOW there are going to be some satirical 2020 costumes out there this year. But I would suggest being the bigger person and being mindful of the point you're trying to prove if that's the road you want to take. Make sure your costume isn't racist, sexist or makes people feel uncomfortable for the wrong reasons. Emotions are high and we all just want to have a good time. Leave the satire for the media and blow people's minds with the sexiest, scariest, coolest costumes you can imagine!
