Roadtrip: Naughty goes to Purgatory

People often ask me, “What is your favorite event?” I always say, “That’s easy—any event that I don’t have to put on.”

I enjoy events in two major ways:

1. I really love putting on events and seeing people’s faces having a good time. Even though I am not having “fun” in that way, I get so much satisfaction hearing from people who tell me that our events have helped change their lives, and there is no better feeling than knowing that you are making a difference.

2. I love to play and have fun like everyone else. I rarely get that option at our events, and that is why I have so much fun at other events. No responsibilities, no meetings, no emergencies and surprises. I can just be myself and enjoy the event like any other participant.

Note: Purgatory was packed with over 1,400 people. Many of the photos I took were taken early in the evening so I could get shots of the lights and the production before many people showed up. The people in the photos gave permission for photos with faces. Some of the photos were provided by the event producer with permission to post.

I experienced this at Purgatory Heaven & Hell in Houston (July 17-21). I have been to many events and resorts over the years, but this was my first Purgatory event. I was looking forward to something different, and Purgatory Heaven & Hell did not disappoint.

Purgatory is a little different from the resorts (Secrets Hideaway, Desire & Hedo) and events (Splash, Champagne Club, Swingstock, and others) because they did not have playrooms. The event's main focus was music, dressing up, and being sexy.

There was a “party floor” (4th floor) where they had a DJ, a hospitality room, and several couples who opened their rooms for late-night partying/playing.

We focused on the music and dressing up and had a blast. You will find electronic music: House, Techno, Vocal EDM, Remixes, Party Anthems and Open Format.

We kicked off the weekend Wednesday night with our tropical outfits because we couldn’t read, and it was White Night (LOL). It didn’t matter; we danced and had a great time anyway.

We started at the Hotel’s bar with DJ Life of Spice playing close by, we had to go over and say “Hello!” to him, he is one of our favorite lifestyle DJ’s. It was great being able to grab a bite to eat and something to drink while a killer DJ set was going on right next to you. That helped me get into the spirit of Purgatory Heaven & Hell.

Before getting into dance mode, there was an area dedicated to selfies, and they had some really high-end photo booths in place with five or six different themes, so we decided to take some photos. We took photos on several nights, but the lines got really long on Friday and Saturday.

As far as other venues, only the big ballroom was open Wednesday night but the production was top-notch. It’s nice to see other places raising the bar when it comes to production.

It was a long day, and we went to bed early.

Thursday was a great day. We hung out at the pool most of the day and met some awesome people that we had mutual friends with. We also met a lot of Naughty fans who came by to say “Hi!”.

We reserved a VIP area that night and invited past Naught Attendees to join us. We had a lot of people stop by to say “Hi!” and grab a drink, and some sat for a while and told stories of past Naughty experiences with us before heading back to the dancefloor.

We had a great view of the dancefloor and the main stage, where sexy performers entertained the crowd, and the DJ took center stage. This was probably our busiest night (probably because we were hosting a VIP section), and we stayed late (close to closing time) and danced our butts off.

On Thursday, they opened a room that focused on heavy Bass and had another stage outside, but we didn’t really get to hang out at either one because we were so busy entertaining in our VIP area.

Note: I am used to Vegas and Miami VIP prices, and we thought the costs for the VIP area were VERY reasonable. You got more seating and better service than I have seen in other cities and at other clubs. Having a VIP area not only brought previous Naughty attendees into our space, but complete strangers came in and said “Hi!”, and we met a lot of people we wouldn’t have otherwise. I give the experience a thumbs up.

We headed to the 4th (party) floor and hopped from room to room, meeting people and hanging out with old friends. For those who only go to events on Fridays and Saturdays, you are missing out on getting to know people better and having a much better experience. I am glad we came on Wednesday; it would have been a much different experience if we had only come on the weekend.

We went to bed late (4 something AM) and slept in on Friday.

Friday was similar to Thursday, minus the VIP area. Luckily, some friends of ours had a VIP area at the pool party, so we donated our unused (it wasn’t much) alcohol from the night before and hung out with them (when not in the pool). I really liked the set from Lizzie Curious. She had so much positive energy coming out of her all weekend. She really killed it at the pool.

We took a little nap before heading out for the night. The theme was Eden (tropical), but we had done that the night before, so we wore skimpy glow outfits (that we should have worn the night before), and no one cared.

As far as theme nights go, I found Purgatory Heaven & Hell attendees thought less is more because they collectively wore less clothing than I have ever seen at an event. I gotta say, I like the way they think and I will have a lot less in my suitcase when we go back.

Friday night is usually my “go hard” night, and this one was no different. We stayed up late and spent much more time going to the other rooms and stages (4 total), and it was 2 a.m. before we knew it. We hung out in the restaurant with friends before heading back upstairs. It’s so nice to be able to hang out and talk to people because that is impossible for me at a Naughty Event.

If you see me in New Orleans or at one of our events and you have a question, please stop me and I will do my best to help you out, but I rarely have 15 minutes where I can sit and hang out with anyone. It was great being able to hang out for extended time without having any event responsibilities.

Anyway, we stayed up till after 4 am again as the party was going strong. Note: You don’t have to stay up this late to enjoy events like Purgatory Heaven & Hell, but the party will be waiting for you if you do.

Saturday we didn’t dress like Angels or Devils (the theme), we dressed in white and did our own thing, but I think we looked great. We ended the night early, as we had to fly home Sunday, but we expanded our circle of friends, danced our butts off, hung out with old friends, and got to know some Naughty attendees a little better. All in all, it was the perfect weekend for us. I will definitely put Purgatory Heaven & Hell on my must-do list.

Not only do they host Purgatory Heaven & Hell in Houston each year, but they also make two trips a year to Cozumel for a full hotel takeover and hold big Halloween and New Year’s Eve Balls in Houston.

I am considering the upcoming Cozumel trip called “Deviant”. Looks right up my alley, we just need to see if we can get some Naughty couples to join us.
