The Week of Non-monogamy for Visibility
The Week of Non-monogamy for Visibility begins today! All week, we'll celebrate non-monogamous communities, families, relationships, and values as we work to dismantle stereotypes, promote acceptance, and celebrate how far we’ve come as a movement.
Visibility is crucial for acceptance. When we share our stories and live openly, we challenge misconceptions and reduce stigma. Visibility helps others understand that non-monogamy is a valid and enriching relationship structure. Whether you're ready to share your identity with the whole world or have a conversation with one friend, we encourage you to think about advancing #NonMonogamyVisibility this week. However, we also recognize that not everyone wants to be open; for some, it’s unsafe. We put together these tips to help you consider if and how you want to open up about your identity.
Each day this week will explore a different theme, shedding light on various dimensions of the non-monogamous experience. Today's theme is History & Culture!
Let's celebrate nonmonogamy's rich history and diverse culture, honor our roots, and acknowledge the global heritage that shapes our communities today. Nonmonogamy has deep roots across many cultures and eras, proving that it is far from a modern Western invention. By understanding our past, we can build a more inclusive and accepting future.
Share the kickoff post on Instagram, Threads, Facebook, and Twitter, or visit the Communications Toolkit to find graphics, video clips, and captions that you can use to help spread #NonMonogamyVisibility.
Then, join us tonight for "Exploring the Roots: A Historical and Cultural Perspective on Non-Monogamy," a virtual roundtable discussion featuring educators and writers who will explore the rich and diverse history of non-monogamous relationships across cultures and time. Click here to RSVP!
Sharing your story or photo can also help celebrate our community’s diversity. Use the hashtag #NonMonogamyVisibility on social media to contribute to our collective narrative and inspire others, or submit your story and photo through this form.
Finally, be sure to check out all of the amazing virtual and in-person events happening in six countries around the globe all week!
Thank you for joining us for this week of action and celebration! Stay engaged, share your stories, and let's make this Week of Visibility a powerful testament to the strength and beauty of our community.
