Decorating Hacks for your room at lifestyle Events and Cruises
Have you ever seen those door decorating contests on cruise ships? Well, why stop at the door? Why not decorate the inside of your cabin while on a lifestyle cruise or your hotel room when going to lifestyle events?
If you want to invite people back to your room, why not add a few simple things to transform your room into an experience people want to see and create a “vibe” perfect for exploring fantasies?
Here is an example of how we decorated our cabin on a recent Temptation Cruise. We were right next to an elevator, so we could leave the door open, and people would pop in to check out the room. This helped us meet a lot of great people we would not have met otherwise.
Here are a few tips to help turn your room or cabin into a sexy paradise.
Lighting can make a BIG difference
Bring some lights to shine on the ceiling, and when you are lying in bed, you will get the whole effect.
Amazon has some great, inexpensive lights that are small enough to throw into your suitcase but big enough to make a huge impact. I really like the Northern Laser Light Effect RGB (shown below on the left), which only costs $28 but has red, green, and blue lights. I usually put it in one of the auto modes that cycles between the three colors with different patterns, and I make sure dynamic sound is activated.
I also like this Northern Galaxy Light Aurora Projector with 33 Light Effects (shown below on the right), which gives a northern light effect on a ceiling with stars created by an included laser. The combination of these two lights will light up almost any room with a very trippy but cool effect.
I also like to put up a few UV Blacklight strips on the walls or ceiling to help make some of my decorations “Pop.” Buy the kind with two reels so you can go in different directions using only two plugs. These are very light and small, and you can easily bring two of these packs with you. They make different sizes (40’ and 50’ reels are the most popular.
Add some Fluorescent UV Blacklight Glow-in-the-Dark Tape in Neon colors to add cool accents to your room. Put them on the corners of walls, around the front of your desk, TV stand, and end tables to help you see the layout of your room when the lights are out and the blacklight strips are on.
Battery Operated Candles
Another great option to help “set the mood” is battery-operated candles. They are fairly light but can take up some space in your luggage (but they are worth it!). There are many different battery-operated candles listed on Amazon.
PLEASE DO NOT USE REAL CANDLES!
Our current favorites are the Homemory Decorative Flameless Candles, which come in three different sizes (5”, 6”, and 7”) and are in attractive smoked plastic holders that look like expensive real candles in glass holders.
We also like the Real Wax 3-Piece Flickering Flameless Candles, which have a wick that moves and creates the best flickering flame event we have seen. When coupled with natural wax, these candles give the best overall look of a real candle (without the real flame).
Flame Light Bulbs & Lanterns
Another great idea is to get a couple of these Hompavo LED Flame Light Bulbs that you can switch out for the bulbs in your hotel lamps. These provide a really cool lantern effect. No matter which way the bulb is put in, it will look like a flame going from the bottom to the top. The newer bulbs have a better flame effect, so check out the reviews and buy only the better bulbs with higher review scores.
Pro Tip: If you turn on the lights, they will flicker like a lantern; if you turn off the switch and turn it back on quickly, the bulb will change modes and add more light to make it easier to see when you don’t need the flame effect. Some will have up to four different effects available.
We love the TomCare Solar Lantern Flickering Flame Solar Lights Outdoor Decorative Large Metal Solar Powered & USB Charged Lanterns. They are pretty large (see photo below for scale), so you may only be able to bring them if you are driving to the event or cruise, but they are so worth it and make a great impact.
You can put these on your balcony, and they will charge in the sun thanks to the built-in solar panels, or you can charge them with an included USB charger in case you have no balcony or way to charge them in the sun.
Tapestries can transform a room
One of our favorite things to decorate with is large wall-hanging tapestries. It's fairly easy to find UV Black Light tapestries that will really transform a room when coupled with the UV black light strips listed above. In the video (at the top of this article), you can see several space-themed tapestries we hung in our cabin using blue painter’s tape.
Pro Tip: Only use painter’s tape when possible, as duct tape can leave a sticky residue and pull off paint and wallpaper when you have to pack up and leave. If a corner starts falling down, you may have to apply the painter’s tape more than once. Just keep adding tape, and it should last the weekend while you are at the event or cruise.
You can do a quick search on Etsy or Amazon to see lots of cool UV Tapestries. You can also search for sexy or Tantra-themed tapestries.
Above are some Tantra-themed tapestries. We try to find colorful tapestries with mandalas, chakras, and beautiful colorful figures.
Below are some brightly colored tapestries that glow brightly under the UV Strip lights. These are the type of tapestries we usually look for, with a nature scene or something a little psychedelic with bright colors.
You can also look for theme ideas depending on the themes of the event. In the video at the start of this article, we used space-themed tapestries because I knew Naughty N’awlins was having an Out of the World space theme this year. These will definitely be used at the event (probably on the playfloor). Here are a couple of space-themed tapestries below.
Don’t forget that the way your room smells and sounds is just as important.
Essential Oil Diffusers and Mist Humidifiers
We like the Porseme 3D Essential Oil Diffuser Cool Mist Humidifier Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Diffuser. The light effects are cool (we like putting it on the rotating color pattern, and it slowly transitions throughout the night to all seven different colors (see below). There are lots of options on Amazon.
All you have to do is fill it with water, add some essential oil drops, turn on the timer (this one has a 30-minute, 1-hour, 2-hour, and 3-hour option), and choose the lighting setting, and it will make the room look and smell great.
Portable Speakers
You can’t have a party in your room or cabin without music. There are a lot of great Bluetooth speakers out there, and they're easy to find on Amazon. We like a couple, but you can also do a Google Search for reviews of the best portable Bluetooth speakers, and there are lots of great articles depending on your price range.
Please Do not crank up the music so loud that security has to come tell you to turn it down at 4 a.m. Some people do need to sleep, so please keep the music down to a reasonable level.
Some of our favorite speakers are the JBL Series and the Sony lineup. We always get the waterproof/dustproof versions to prevent spilled drinks from killing the music. It's also a great idea to get speakers that can be connected with other speakers to give you a fuller sound.
Recently, we bought a pair of Harman Kardon speakers (below), and we really love them, especially when connecting two. They are heavy and not as portable as the ones above, but they sure sound great!
Now, all you need to do is to figure out what to play. We recommend these two playlists from Spotify; they can help you set the mood:
