Sex Positivity and Inclusivity

We are all one family…

Recently we had someone on Facebook write about us asking if our event was only for rich white people and that they did not see anything that represented a sex-positive culture and inclusiveness.

I wasn’t upset at the post, because they hadn’t been to our event before and they really had no idea what Naughty N’awlins is all about.

Several people wrote beautiful things about our event and that made me feel good about our impact on their lives and let me know that we are heading on the right track.

One of the issues we have is that most people do not want to be photographed at an alternative event and it is even harder to get a diverse group of people to agree to be on our website. Even though our event has grown more and more diverse over the years, it is hard to document that publicly unless more diverse people sign up to be photographed and shown in our newsletters and on our website.

I am hoping that this post and now this article will inspire more people to sign photo releases and help us show the world what Naughty N’awlins is all about.

We want every age, every size, and every sexual orientation to feel welcome and safe at our events.

We have people from every rainbow at our event, burners, bisexuals, big and small, black, white, Asian, old and young, and even guys with blue hair (oh, my).

We are starting an important dialog by having panels on subjects like race in this lifestyle, bisexuality, and other topics that are not taking place at other events.

We are focusing on consent and we have one of the only dungeons at an event like this. Our classes range from BDSM to Tantra and astrology. We are constantly trying to give attendees more options to expand their sexuality and learn about things they would never find at home.

I also want to remind everyone that our fight for acceptance only comes from two things:

 1. People coming out with their alternative lifestyle to their friends and family. We know many can’t, but others can at least think about it and consider options for them to be themselves and come out of the closet.

The more people that know openly gay, bisexual, polyamorous, kinky, and swinging friends and family, the more we will all be accepted and loved. Discrimination and hate are learned emotions and even the most judgmental people can start to understand when they find out that a friend or family member lives an alternative lifestyle.

Does anyone remember how Dick Cheney changed when he found out that his daughter was gay? If he can open up and accept someone that is different from themselves, then others can too.

2. The need to be inclusive of other people with different sexual orientations. It amazes me when BDSM people look down on swingers or swingers look down on people that are gay. Their DNA may not match up with your DNA but we all have the right to live the way we are born. These are not choices, we are who we are.

I believe that for most, monogamy is a choice, not how we are wired. Most animals do not exhibit naturally monogamous tendencies but are told that this is the way we should be. I’m not buying it.

Our Sexual Freedom Parade is not a “Swinger’s Parade” or any other niche parade, it is a march to declare that Sexual Freedom is a basic right.

What happens in our bedrooms is our business, not anyone else’s. Who we decide to love and play with should not be dictated by a religion or a government.

Support other sexual minorities in their fight to have sexual orientation included as a protected class that cannot be discriminated against. Far too many employers and people going through a divorce use this in order to punish people with which lifestyle they disagree.

 This has to stop.

We are all one big rainbow family...
