LIFE'S A TRIP

SS HEADER BOB AND TESS.jpg

I love road trips. Whether in a car, an RV, or taking a trip across the country in a plane, it doesn’t matter. I just like getting out of the house and heading out on a new adventure. Right now, people are REALLY ready to get out of their houses and we are getting really close to seeing road trips happening a lot more than last year.

But a “road trip” doesn’t have to be a long-distance journey, sometimes, you can find amazing adventures and treasures right outside your house. Right in your own neighborhood.

Tess and I LOVE going on bike rides. Bicycles, that is…

Think Small

Try taking a small road trip around your neighborhood. We love to leave our home in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans and head through the Marigny, into the French Quarter, the Central Business District (CBD), through the warehouse district, and beyond.

Sometimes we take the Greenway up to Bayou St John and over to City Park. There are so many great little restaurants, bars and interesting people to meet and things to see.

We see a lot more when we are out on a walk or riding our bikes than we ever see in a car. Sometimes it’s better to slow down and appreciate things a little more, rather than speeding by to get to your destination.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote that “life is a journey, not a destination” And we couldn’t agree more.

The other day, Tess and I took a ride through our neighborhood and I took a few photos along the way. I am going to include a small gallery below, with descriptions of what we saw. So come along on our ride and see what we saw and I hope you’ll be inspired to go on your own “road trip” while paying attention to all of the art, animals, stuff in people’s windows and yards, say “Hi!” and wave to everyone you see and take the time to enjoy the journey.

Think Big

This summer, Tess and I are planning a couple of big road trips. We are going to head to Houston in our RV to check out Xcapades Hotel Takeover in Houston in June. After this event, we are going to take an additional two weeks and head west in our RV for some hiking and communing with nature in some National Parks.

In July, we are going to the IOS Connection Takeover at Secrets Resort in Kissimmee, FL. We can’t wait to hit up Disney and Universal too (Star Wars and Harry Potter!).

Of course, in early August, we will be at our signature event: Naughty N’awlins for one of our most anticipated events ever. Right after Naughty N’awlins, we have an Island Takeover in Belize.

We are then going to head to Burning Man at the end of August. Afterward, we are going to Vegas to check out Sin City in early September.

These are all BIG road trips, but after a year of being cooped up, we have finished up our vaccines and we are ready to roll.

We will be back in New Orleans for most of October, to check out Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, and a couple of other local music festivals (like Buku & Voodoo Fest) before heading back to Mexico for a while.

With everything starting to re-open, and the vaccinations rolling out faster than we anticipated, it’s time for you to start planning a couple of BIG road trips for yourselves.

We all work hard enough to earn a living and save for our future, let’s make sure to create some time for self-care, exploration, and adventure so we can enjoy life’s journey.

As you see, we have a lot of road trips planned this year. We hope to see you at Naughty N’awlins or on one of our other road trips this summer…
