MARDI GRAS IS HERE & THERE ARE NO PARADES
Well, it’s Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras Day! But it sure doesn’t feel like it. Although, in some places it does.
Normally today is a day filled with rolling parades with decorated floats and streets lined with people catching beads. The pandemic has not only canceled all conventions, concerts, and Naughty Events, it has also put musicians, bars, makers of beads, artists, float builders, and many other wonderful people from New Orleans out of work.
A few months ago, some creative people came up with an idea to help float builders and artists survive: House Floats! What is a House Float? Well, it is when someone decorated their house to look like a Mardi Gras float. Instead of the float driving past you, people can drive around New Orleans looking at all of the “House Floats” in the safety of their cars.
Here are a few examples of House Floats:
They even created a map so people can easily map out a route to go see the house floats during Mardi Gras. Many of our friends have been riding their bikes to see these amazing decorations for something to do during the day (and at night).
Even our Next Door Neighbors got into the mix (see the pictures below).
We think it is wonderful that people are rising up and coming up with creative ways to replace large events with unique ways to be creative but in a safer way.

City workers were working in front of her house and it caused a major sewage break that literally created a shit’s creek in front of her house. After dealing with this shitty situation for weeks, she decided to say f@ck it and have fun with it. She created a House Float celebrating this crazy situation that was a final feather in the cap in a year that was 2020. A shitty year indeed.
A local paper ran a story about Trixie’s “House Float” and the next day the city send 20 guys and 4 trucks to fix the mess. About time and inspiration that 2021 might bring us hope.
We hope that these creative House Floats are something that continues in future years. Tess and I are already contemplating ideas for next year’s Mardi Gras. One thing is for sure, there will not be any poop in our theme.
